Storage Server Tuning

$35 – Typically done in 24 hours

Any server will do its job if you just throw an ftp server on it; however, if you want it to do its job well, then there are many considerations that must be taken into account. For instance, I may tune up to 35 variables in the kernel alone. Then there’s your hard disks, applications and device configurations. Don’t even get me started on buffer bloat. This is just a small portion of what you can ignore when I tune-up your server.

    Network Adapter

Servers ship with defaults that aren’t conducive to high performance network connections. Through careful study, I have determined a set of kernel parameters designed to increase network performance, both in the kernel and at the hardware level.

    Storage Medium

While default options are tending to be more focused in the realm of performance with recent operating systems such as Ubuntu 16.04, there is still much that can be done to improve Read/Write performance to keep your hard disks up to speed with your applications of choice.

  • Connector.

    Memory management

Is your server swapping RAM to hard disk when it shouldn’t? Careful consideration has allowed some insights into the unique considerations required for storage servers.

  • Connector.

    Application Configuration

Not all applications ship with good defaults. In fact, many of them ship defaults intended for desktop users! Bring out the best in your server by making sure your apps aren’t slowing you down.

    Buffer Bloat

Buffer bloat occurs when requests for bulk data transfers overpower other high priority services such as SSH and HTTP. By using certain values, we can ensure that important packets don’t get dropped and latency remains reasonable — so your SSH sessions and/or HTTP requests remain responsive — even if your server is using its bandwidth to the fullest extent.
